 Principle Five: Cell Intelligence

Healing Principle #5 has to do with cells. Each and every one of your cells has an intelligence system. So simple, yet so effective is this system that we don’t think about it much, but should be applauding it on a daily basis.  Like the amoeba, the one celled organism some of us played with in high school biology, our cells know what they are doing; they act intelligently. Even under the microscope, as a blooming scientist, some of us were amazed at the ability of these unicellular organisms to move toward food and away from danger. Our cells, each of them, perform key rolls, often crucial ones, toward enhancing the healing response and bringing us, as total holistic people back to health.
Just like a football team that has many players and special teams, each of our cells must know enough to take in what they need and stay away from thing that they do not need. They have an innate intelligence to search and move, finding and procuring essential nutrients when needed, or finding alternative fuels if their morsels of choice are not there.

Shame on you if you are not paying attention to the basic needs your cells.  The composition of cells is primarily water – over 66%.  So simple, so refreshing is pure water. Yet so many of us, myself included, drink more expensive, less healthy beverages all day long.

What do you need? One suggested formula is to drink half your body “pound” weight in ounces – daily. If you understand the average cola, or the concept of “six-packs”, this means that if you weigh 144 pounds, you should drink 72 ounces of water per day – about a six pack. (each can of cola is 12 ounces: 6 x 12 = 72).

If you are drinking a lot of coffee, tea or cola – or if you live in Arizona where it is very hot – you might want to increase this number. Water is not usually considered a nutrient, but think about it as one, at least for the moment – perhaps, it will sink in.  Aside from water, our cells need minerals. The minerals we need are some of the simple ones such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper and the list goes one, though these are the big ones. Our cells need the right kind of food, preferably a balance. My suggestion is that you stay at about 40% protein, 30% carbohydrate and 30% fat, but you must evaluate the choices you have in each of these categories and make some intelligent cellular choices – low on simple sugars, and trans fats for sure.

Cell Power = Cell Intelligence.
