Principle Two: The Blocked Highway Principle
The Energetic You objects furiously when blocked, tied up, trapped, confined or imprisoned. Studies have shown that people trapped in assorted ways experience acute rises in blood pressure, extra heartbeats, and heart attacks.
Principle No. 2, called the Blocked Highway Principle, hones in on the idea that healing energy flows in one direction – toward salubrity, that state of “enviable health” Your body’s healing response will always do its very best to get you back to optimal health if given the time, resources and energy to do so. When good health is achieved, you feel an awesome strength.
In my book, The Healing Response, a vast amount of information and clinical examples are cited to encourage you. Sparked into exuberance, you get your shoes on and you get going. You move. You do the things needed to get your health rolling and start living again if you have been in a rut.
If you are going to really live, to climb mountains or ski slopes again; you must pay attention to the holistic you. Such is the embracing concept of the healing response. It is not about taking an aspirin so your headache goes away, or a grande expresso to wake you up, or a sleeping pill to knock you down.
Healing is about living great, about not apologizing for being alive, about people getting out of your way so you can do it. Getting unblocked is important.
Michelle is a 29-year-old Caucasian female. She has been experiencing lower pelvic pain for 3 years. Her gynecologist is telling her she still has endometriosis even though she has been through two surgeries to remove “benign” masses associated with this condition.
She also complains of bloating, gas and constipation. She asks her gynecologist about acupuncture, but he politely scoffs.
She starts asking friends and does a little Internet searching. She finds a local physician who has been trained through the UCLA extension program. She schedules an appointment and is surprised that the office looks like that of an internal medicine physician: no voodoo dolls, mysterious music or scents. Even the artwork looks conservative.
His evaluation involves a rather long taking of the pulse, a careful look at the tongue, and then a search for tender points. Michelle is treated bilaterally with only six needles on the first visit. After the initial treatment, Michelle sleeps better. After six treatments, her pelvic pain in gone; she feels the bloating and congestion in her pelvic is better. She feels more like “a normal woman” again.
Principle No. 2 means that if you are overweight, out of shape and living in the blues, step out of the foxhole. If you are weak in purpose, bogged down in negative thoughts, and out of synch with God, open up in prayer and song.
Get help. It’s available in many forms. This principle emphasizes that “hands on therapy” is great. It often gets healing energy moving in the right direction. Find someone who does acupuncture, acupressure, craniosacral therapy, myofascial releases, or rolfing. Let well-trained hands get in there and help you if this is what is needed.
When it comes to supplements, suggestions include a generous vitamin and mineral source, especially B vitamins, Co-Enzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) magnesium, manganese copper and zinc.
Vitamins and mineral help assure the biochemical reactions involved in sparking and moving energy are not on vacation. Rev it up! Certain herbals -- tumeric, aescin (horse chestnut) and ginger help ward off inflammation and provide oxidative stress protection. Essential fatty acids, abundant in flax, borage and fish oils provide membrane and viscosity protection. Enzyme formulas are a great source of fitness for the immune system, as well as aiding digestion.
Especially important are proteolytic enzymes, which aid in cleaning up cellular waste and removing dead materials from the cells. Pure water is a nice idea for city dwellers (recommended is reverse osmosis). Breathing clean air, especially at night, is worthwhile. Suggested are the microfilters available from Oreck or Sharper Image.
“Staying on keel” is a nautical term that emphasizes caution, while expecting diligence and zeal. The Healing Response Concept and its associated principles can be likened to a sailor guiding his or her ship (body).
You and I are going somewhere; it is the state of salubrity. Even if you are somewhat battered and bruised, it is still the destination intended. While we may not be immortal (we’re not), we all know people who have lived long and hard.
Live each moment as if it were the crescendo of a symphony. Have fun. Do what you want to do. Be affected and infective to those around you. Journey well. Keep the healing energy healing you. You can do this.
