Understanding Immunoglobulins and Their Effect on Immunity

The flu might have a “season” each year but the common cold can strike at any time.  So what we need to do is come up with a plan to keep ourselves and healthy as possible day after day, no matter what the month.

Let’s think about this for a minute – what do these illnesses have in common?  They both sneak into our bodies when our immune systems are down.  Our immunity – our natural, wonderful immunity – is one of the best defenses we have against illness.  We can wash our hands until they are red and chapped and stay away from coughing co-workers as much as possible but unless our immune systems are working at optimum levels, we are going to get sick.

As you know, I’m a huge fan of natural remedies that boost wellness and salubrity.  One such product that I’ve been reading about a lot lately is produced from bovine serum.  If you have ever heard of bovine colostrums, then you sort of already know what I’m talking about.  Bovine serum is sort of a first cousin of colostrums, except it’s lactose-free and low in fat.  It’s also amazingly rich in immunoglobulins, a protein that is created in our plasma cells.  These immunoglobulins go to work fighting off the host of viruses, bacteria and other nasties that try to get into our systems on an almost-daily basis.

The immunoglobulins can be broken down into different types, including IgA, IgG, and IgM.  The IgG immunoglobulin is the most common one, and from what I’ve read is simply incredible at killing off bacteria and viruses.  The IgA antibodies hang out in our eyes, ears, nose and GI tracts, and the IgM group is found in our lymph fluid and blood.

Bovine serum is also rich in transferrins, another type of protein that helps with energy production and immune system support.  It also contains IgF-1, which can help repair RNA and DNA and immunoregulators that may affect the thymus gland.

I know this article contains a lot more technical jargon than many, and for this I apologize.  There’s really no other way to describe the many health benefits of bovine serum without delving into the alphabet for scientific abbreviations.  In the spirit of maintaining your eyesight and sanity, let me put all of the above into a nutshell: bovine serum is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing supplements we can take to bolster our immunity.  It naturally contains everything we need to ward off the bugs and germs, and has been shown to help keep us well, not just during flu season, but all year long.
